Restoration glass resembles glass before the advent of modern float glass. It contains distortions and irregularities, making it ideal for use in older homes, commercial buildings and restoration of historical buildings. It is also very suitable for new residential and commercial structures, or furniture and cabinets where an “antique” look is desired. We offer 4 types of clear restoration glass - Schott’s GNA Restover®, Saint-Just’s Colonial and Cordelé, and Spectrum’s Vintage Clear™ Period Reproduction Glass.

Due to the difficulties in photographing these glasses, there are currently no photos available to demonstrate the subtle distortions and irregularities.

For Restoration Samples - Order GL SAMREST. Set includes 1 4”x4” sample of each type.

Mouth-blown Reproduction Glass
COLONIAL and CORDELÉ

IFA COLOINAL & IFA CORDELE

Colonial
IFA COLONIAL is a mouth-blown glass resembling glass from the 19th and early 20th centuries. It contains distortions and irregularities making it ideal for use in older homes, commercial buildings and restoration of historical buildings. It is also very suitable for new residential and commercial structures or furniture and cabinets where an “antique” look is desired. Sheet size varies with each sheet but generally would fall within several inches of 35” x 40”. Thickness also varies but would normally be just under 3mm.

Cordelé
IFA CORDELÉ, resembling glass made in the 17th and 18th centuries, features a heavier distortion than Colonial, with a few seeds. Pricing is very similar to the Colonial, but we stock limited quantities, therefore orders are based on special order requirement.

Restover®
Machine Drawn Reproduction Glass
GNA 0189RES

Restover®
Machine drawn glass produced specifically for restorations. It contains slight distortions or waves in the glass, but contains almost no bubbles. Thickness is 2.5-3.5mm, and sheet sizes are usually 60”x40”.

Due to the fact that it has a low thickness, this glass can be easily used with historic window frames. Its lively surface structure restores the old charm to historic buildings and allows them to reflect their former glory.

SPECTRUM

Vintage Clear™
Period Reproduction Glass
SP A/100VINT

Vintage Clear™
Spectrum recently introduced this reproduction glass, and it is quite popular with our customers. Vintage Clear is Spectrum’s first-ever entry into the increasingly popular restoration segment. This refined, double-rolled product is a medium-distortion, 3.2mm sheet glass simulating common window glass of the early 20th century. Restoration sheet glass products are commonly used in windows, interior doors and furnishings to evoke the look and feel of early American craftsmanship.

Vintage’s visual clarity is Spectrum’s best ever. Movement in the sheet is subtle but definite, and the surface is glossy but characteristically imperfect. Vintage Clear can also be tempered, to meet safety-glazing standards, where applicable.

Priced significantly less than comparable versions, Vintage Clear is an excellent choice for homeowners and designers working with period styling, revival designs and historical themes.

Vintage Clear is currently stocked in 26” x 72” sheets.

Opalika®
Machine Drawn Reproduction Glass
GL 700 & GL 730

GL_700

Opalika®
Opalika® is manufactured using Fourcault drawing process. The thickness of the flashed layer varies as a result of the process at right angles to the direction of draw. Thus, with uniform backlighting, brighter and darker zones can occur. The variation of thickness of the flashed layer along the direction of draw is, however negligible.

In case of large area use for lighting purpose a selection within the sheet is necessary in all cases. To do this the sheet must be backlit uniformly. Apart from that, in the case of larger objects (e.g. Illuminated ceilings), it is essential to use material from a linked production period, as the distribution of the flashed layer and the opacity values can be different from drawing period to drawing period.

This glass is available in a range of thicknesses and, in thicker sizes, is suitable for direct use in architectural applications. Thinner sizes may be laminated and all sizes of white may, according to the manufacturer, be tempered.
